Burger King has used some of its TV time to make fun of AI.
Does that, in fact, matter?
In terms of being some sort of threat to the AI space, not really. Burger King is known for running advertising campaigns that make light-hearted fun of current trends, which have included the net neutrality movement, among others. This particular campaign involved Burger King trying to convince people that its commercials were made by AI, which is apparently a response to the growing trend of announcing AI’s use cases related to video production and video editing, including deep fakes. Inside of this campaign, Burger King attempted to fool its customers, or at least, amuse them with a tweet that claimed its newest commercials were the result of a bot watching 1000 hours of previous company commercials and creating some of its own in response.
According to the Next Web piece below, people have actually been fooled by this campaign into believing that Burger King is actually, actively using an AI system. In reality, all of the ads in question were created by an ad agency called David Miami, which very much involves humans in everything that it does. To add to this, it seems that David Miami is not even a new partner, given that they have worked with Burger King before, on other campaigns.
If you are interested in seeing the advertisements in question, check out our primary resource below. For now, as the Next Web suggests, what we can reasonably conclude on this subject is that this is quite possibly just another incidence of showcasing the human creativity that AI systems do not have yet.
On the other hand, we can also propose an interesting possibility for the future. What if someone created a test in which humans and AIs produce an ad campaign with the same overall goal, to be compared side by side? To make this actually achieve significant results, logically, one could specify that unsupervised learning should be used as a framework for the AIs involved, instead of supervised learning, which means consistent human involvement.
At this point, such a competition seems unlikely, due to the sheer prevalence of supervised learning, across the AI industry. Despite this, we would love to hear your thoughts below on our proposed creative battle. Stay tuned for more related pieces in the future and as always, thank you for stopping by and joining in this emergent discussion with us.
