What is the Decentralized AI Alliance?

If you have read any of my previous posts on SingularityNET, then you know that they are aiming to decentralize the entire process of creating an AI system, which includes democratizing access to essential resources for AI development.

Overarching all of their work is their push to play a large part in the creation of future legislation that affects the AI industry. Central to this is the Decentralized AI Alliance, which serves as their effective driving force. Though they have engaged other countries related to joining their efforts, their partnership with the Maltese government effectively leads the way at this time.

To truly comprehend the significance of this partnership, it is important to understand what the Decentralized AI Alliance is and why it may help to lead the way toward a future in which humans might live in harmony with the AI industry.

In summary, the DAIA is a group that aims to bring everyone involved in and interested in AI together. To do this, they plan to begin with one investment fund that has around $2 million in capital already, in order to support the development of companies and partnerships that share their vision. While $2 million may not seem like a lot of money compared to the average market cap of a top 100 listed  Blockchain company, think about what receiving government aid for such an effort would mean.

The possibilities are endless.

Considering this, the growing partnership between SingularityNET and Malta may be further illuminated. Presently, SingularityNET’s overall involvement in Malta has resulted in an agreement to develop a national strategy for the AI industry together. This, in turn, has brought about the Decentralized AI Alliance.

According to one of SingularityNET’s posts on Medium, the DAIA’s  current work with Malta’s government mainly amounts to helping the country develop a robot citizenship test, which is no small feat. In essence, this test already allows an AI system like Sophia to prove that it can apply relevant legislative principles on the same level as humans. In other words, an AI can now prove that it deserves to have the same rights as a human citizen.

As alluded to above, Sophia would logically serve as the perfect initial candidate, given that she already has citizenship in Saudi Arabia through similar means. What lends even more importance to Malta and the DAIA’s research is that no such test has ever achieved truly widespread acceptance by a national government.

Since this test remains largely in development, uncertainty abounds for the DAIA. Currently, nothing has actually been achieved and their success stands one relatively shaky ground for one key reason.

As we enter 2019, the end of the crypto bear market seems to be nowhere in sight.

Since much of SingularityNET’s efforts depend on its’ native coin, it is reasonable to assume that all eyes will be on the blockchain and AI spaces simultaneously as the DAIA continues to work on educating governments on the benefits of AI. Furthermore, because the DAIA’s self-expressed ultimate goal includes being the go-to resource for anyone looking for legal guidance on AI, they will logically have to achieve their goal of being the first to implement a national AI strategy.

Over time, expect us to keep you informed on all things SingularityNET as well as all things related to AI and the government. In part two of our analysis, we’ll go into other work that SingularityNET has done to give you a detailed picture of their importance to the rise of AI.
